In December, while many people are seeking warmth, there’s a company opening camps amid Antarctica with ice and snow all year around.

Luxury adventure company White Desert is now the only operator to offer a zero-impact, ultra-luxury glampsite in the Antarctic. What will those who love exotic things experience when booking services from this company at the South Pole of the Earth?

Convenient and modern camps

Echo

With the slogan “Inspired by astronauts, used by explorers”, Echo is inspired by space exploration, futuristic oriented. From afar, the camps look like UFOs landed on Earth by aliens. Heated pod has six bedrooms created from composite fiberglass with floor-to-ceiling windows making guests feel like floating in the magnificent ice scenery. Each bedroom is equipped with interiors emulating a space station with an adjoining washroom.

Serving up to 12 people, Echo allows guests to combine an ultra-luxury experience with adventure. In addition, Echo is designed to be dismantled, leaving no trace behind on the Antarctic landscape. White Desert will offer catering with bespoke menus crafted from fine ingredients by a personal chef. Besides, using Echo, you’ll be taken to a private lounge to enjoy a martini shaken with 10,000-year-old ice.

Patrick Woodhead, CEO and Founder of White Desert, said: “The inspiration behind Echo Base comes from too many years of watching Star Wars as a kid. I loved the style and vision of how they perceived the future would be in the 1970s.” He likened traveling to Antarctica to visiting the closest planet possible without leaving Earth.

Each Echo pod can get original photos taken from the International Space Station (ISS) by former Commander – colonel Terry Virts, White Desert guest and retired astronaut, to make memories for the once in a lifetime trip.

Whichaway

If you’re looking for a not-so-chilling experience in Antarctica, you can try Whichaway, camp on the shores of one of the freshwater lakes of the ice-free Schirmacher Oasis. Inside heated polar pods, travelers can gather in the communal lounge, dining area or read books at the library. Everyday, chefs will make you a good breakfast, followed by a six-course tasting menu with finest wine and dinner. They can also enjoy a sauna with a view of the glacier, sip cocktails by the fire, and more. The rooms are fully equipped, with soft furnishings and a washing area.

Wolf’s Fang

This is White Desert’s newest camp. Offering laid back yet sophisticated interiors that evoke the bygone age of explorers, Wolf’s Fang features six heated bedroom tents that are equipped with en-suite washrooms. It uses many furry items as further confirmation of its wild name. Guests can relax and connect together at the spacious lounge area. At the dining area, they will taste hot dishes or choose a cocktail at the world’s most remote ice bar.

Activities to warm up

Going to Antarctica to challenge themselves, surely visitors will not lie in bed the whole day. That’s why White Desert offers a range of activities to keep them warm outside such as fatbiking, skiing (of course), nunatak tour, abseiling, ski-doo tour, ice climbing, etc. Another extremely cool activity is spending a night under a canvas tent to learn life-saving techniques from explorers. However, you should consider your health and stamina before trying this difficult activity.

Moreover, you will also have a chance to see Emperor penguins, the world’s biggest penguin species. This will be one of the most desirable experiences for those who are about to set foot in Antarctica.

Echo will open from the beginning of December this year. Each tour will last from 6 to 9 days. As the only operator on the planet to fly guests to remote Antarctica, the tours don’t come cheap, with the price starting at 65,000 USD per person. Nevertheless, there are many willing to pay a lot for this one-of-a-kind experience since some dates have been fully booked. Whereas, Whichaway welcomes guests sooner, starting from November 19, 2022. The lowest rate is 62,500 USD per person. With Wolf’s Fang, you will camp in only one day, the first date is December 7, 2022 and the price is 14,500 USD per person.

Operating a unique tour is not enough, White Desert also knows well how to renew its products. They design diverse options for customers: Echo for those who like the space and futuristic style, Whichaway is suitable for those seeking luxurious and elegant experience, and Wolf’s Fang is the great place for people who love wilderness. Simultaneously, the environmental issue is also concerned and carried out by White Desert, which pleases consumers.
