One of the solutions to develop the night-time economy (NTE) is to extend the opening hours of several services until 6 am the next morning. It has been approved and to be piloted in some major tourist destinations at first.
The Prime Minister of Vietnam, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, has just approved the NTE (night-time economy) development project with the aim of exploiting the potential of NTE, developing economy and improving the incomes as well as living standards of the residents.
However, in response to future threats, the project is also being worked on to limit risks and negativity on political security along with social order and safety.
The solutions for NTE development include: focusing on raising awareness of the benefits and risks from NTE, and continuing to complete NTE frameworks for both pilot and risk control.
Once the framework has been announced, listed cities or major tourist attractions are allowed to conduct NTE pilots, extending the opening hours of service activities until 6 am the next day. For now, only large cities/provinces such as Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hoi An, Thua Thien Hue, Can Tho, Da Lat, Phu Quoc can operate and manage NTE activities.
After a certain time, the performance and the management of NTE activities in the above places will be evaluated in order to adjust and further develop before applying in the whole country.
The development project will also promote tourism and NTE activities, build suitable products featuring indigenous cultural values and select signature travel services and touristic attractions to concentrate on.
Each city/province is required to follow the general framework, research and develop an NTE model suitable accordingly to its practical conditions, support from available infrastructure and investment resources.
So as to develop NTE, local authorities should seriously consider and be aware of influencing factors and NTE impacts on the destination, then based on their needs and resources to manage the project on the local level.
