From November 17-20, Vietnam’s first national long-distance paragliding tournament is held in Tam Duong (Lai Chau) with the participation of 100 paragliders. It is called Pu Ta Leng long-distance paragliding tournament.

Si Thau Chai, a community tourism village in Tam Duong, is a familiar address for paragliding pilots from Vietnam and many parts of the world. From here, the paragliders crossed the poetic Tac Tinh waterfall, then reached the majestic Mount Pu Ta Leng.

Tam Duong, Lai Chau is the only place to host large-scale long-distance paragliding tournaments in Vietnam. This tournament is also recognized by the Federation of Air Sports International (FAI) as an international competition.

These tournaments create conditions for Vietnamese pilots to achieve outstanding achievements in the world rankings. It helped Vietnamese pilots gain a foothold in the world rankings and made history for Vietnamese paragliders when they attended the Paragliding World Cup (PWC) in Gochang, South Korea in October 2022 for the first time.

Besides the top Vietnamese paragliders taking part in, the paragliding tournament also had the participation of 35 paragliders from 15 different countries, including the USA, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, UK, France, Russia, Australia, Kazakhstan, Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand.

Via this occasion, Lai Chau aims to make Pu Ta Leng paragliding tournament an international tournament, then become the official long-distance paragliding competition in the competition system of the World Air Sports Federation (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale – FAI) and the Paragliding World Cup.

Meanwhile, the province expects to build Lai Chau into a national paragliding destination, attracting more and more Vietnamese and international paragliders.
