Thailand is currently planning to stop applying the hotel discount program for international guests, bringing back the price of two years ago. However, domestic customers will still enjoy this benefit.

According to Traisuree Taisaranakil, a government spokesman, the decision to discontinue the policy was made in order to maintain Thailand’s standards in price and service with international visitors, as low-cost tourism will cause damage to the country’s image, and influence international tourists’ perception of Thailand.

In addition, the government also asked private hospitals to limit the following discounts to attract foreign tourists.

Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakil said at a recent tourism promotion event: “We cannot let tourists come to Thailand and say they came because it’s cheap. Instead, let them say they’re here because the price is right and we can enhance the value.”

Before that, during the two years of the epidemic, many Thai hotels had massive discounts, in many places up to 70% off. Although the number of visitors to Thailand has begun to increase again as before the epidemic, many hotels continue to sharply reduce prices to attract tourists.
