According to the Ministry of Transport, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) is implementing a project to build passenger terminal T3 of Tan Son Nhat International Airport and other infrastructure works.

This project is expected to construct in the fourth quarter of 2022 and completed in 2024. When the project finishes, the total capacity of Tan Son Nhat airport will be up to 50 million passengers/year.

The terminal T3 will have a capacity of 20 million passengers/year and other infrastructure works. The construction of the terminal T3 aims to reduce the pressure on the terminal T1, which is currently overloaded, avoid congestion and improve service quality.

This project plans to last 50 years, counting from the date of the decision on land allocation and land lease. In addition, the project was approved in 2020 by the Government with a total investment of VND 10.99 trillion (USD 470.5 million), using the ACV’s budget.

Because of the problem with land transfer for defense, the project began later than the previous plan. In July, the Prime Minister requested this project to start in the third quarter of 2022 and be completed in September 2024 in a meeting with local departments to promote the terminal T3 construction project.

After that, the Ministry of National Defense was approved to hand over about 27.85 hectares of defense land to the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City for management to implement the T3 terminal project.
