Singapore spends more than 32 million USD to promote domestic tourism

The SingapoRediscovers campaign is so far the largest promotional activity of the Lion City in order to encourage people to travel within the country.

Singapore Tourism Board (STB), Enterprise Singapore and Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) have collaborated to launch the SingapoRediscovers campaign for domestic tourism promotion at a cost of 45 million SGD (approximately 32.6 million USD). The campaign is going to last for 9 months with the aim to encourage people to support domestic tourism and discover new things within the Lion City.

In particular, travelers have the opportunity to stay at luxury hotels, including luxury hotel chains on Sentosa Island, from the partners of the campaign, enjoy discovery trip to new popular destinations in the heart of the city as well as take advantage of a wide range of various deals at the attractions. Each area and cultural space are built into a short trip, helping Singaporeans experience the unique beauty of their homeland with many attractive offers.

The SingapoRediscovers campaign includes some of the events like e-Great Singapore Sale, which takes place on September 9, the online Singapore Food Festival in August and conferences about the culinary field held in Little India and Chinatown.

“This campaign will be a stepping stone to redefining the concept of ‘staycation’, encouraging residents of Singapore to enjoy a ‘Singapoliday’ – a local holiday to discover our own homeland as well as support local businesses,” said Keith Tan, Director General of STB.

The CEO of STB claimed that despite the aim to stimulate domestic tourism, the campaign will ensure safety measures to be monitored closely along with the tourism recovery progress. All businesses participating in the campaign must comply with strict capacity restrictions and social distancing measures. According to him, the hotels that are allowed to open should have enough room to serve as a 14-day quarantine facility for repatriated residents returning from abroad. About 80 hotels out of 100 hotels opening at the moment have received approval to resume operations for staycations as of Jul 21.

Thien Kwee Eng, Executive Director of SDC, announced that about 80% of the attractions, hotels and restaurants on the island have reopened. Nearly half of the hotels registered to be quarantine facilities will gradually open in the near future.
