Thailand’s Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration has endorsed the upgrade of the Phuket Sandbox program to Phuket Sandbox 7 + 7 Extension, giving tourists more choice of destinations.
Phuket Sandbox 7 + 7 Extension program takes effect from August 16. Under this program, fully vaccinated international tourists can reduce the required number of days of stay in Phuket from 14 days to 7 days. During the remaining 7 days, tourists can travel to selected destinations, including Krabi (Ko Phi Phi, Ko Ngai, and Railay), Phang-Nga (Khao Lak and Ko Yao), or Surat Thani (Ko Samui, Ko Pha-ngan, and Ko Tao).
The entry regulations of the Phuket Sandbox 7 + 7 Extension program remain unchanged compared to that of the Phuket Sandbox program. However, tourists need to present a Transfer Form provided by the hotel in Phuket to prove they have stayed in Phuket for 7 days, along with certifications of two negative tests taken during their stay in Phuket.
Tourists traveling from Phuket to other destinations will have to follow approved routes and transportations.
After finishing their 7-day stay at the 2nd destination, tourists will be issued a “Release Form” by the hotel to continue their journey to other destinations in Thailand. If they stay at the 2nd destination for less than 7 days, they will have to fly directly to Phuket airport and present proof of onward international travel from Phuket.
Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor, said, “The Phuket Sandbox 7+7 Extension program signifies the progress of Thailand’s plan to gradually reopen to fully vaccinated international travelers within the set time frame. The launch of the Phuket Sandbox from 1 July, Samui Plus from 15 July, and Phuket Sandbox 7+7 Extension from 16 August will lead the way to the reopening of more pilot destinations, which are currently preparing appropriate measures to ensure the health and safety of both the tourists and local people.”
