The Department of Tourism (DOT) of the Philippines, through the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), has funded digital transformation projects for destinations to promote “smart tourism” in the country.
As of June this year, TPB has funded a total of 111,653 million PHP to local government units in various projects, such as the development of the VIS.I.T.A platform. (Visitor Information & Travel Assistance), local tourism websites, mobile apps, and digital marketing tools.
Many destinations in the Philippines have deployed the VIS.I.T.A. application. such as Baguio City, Ilocos region, Central and Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Metro Manila and many other provinces and cities.
In addition, with funding from DOT, a tourism website of Oriental Mindoro province and the “Lakbay Oriental Mindoro” application were also launched on July 8 as a digital travel guide channel for 14 municipalities under the province.
DOT has also funded many programs and projects focused on ensuring health and safety and restoring visitor confidence; promotion packages and marketing and promotion activities.
Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat said: “Digital innovations are playing a crucial role in the recovery of the tourism industry. Not only do they improve the efficiency of business operations, and promotions, they also allow for a safer environment through contactless transactions, virtual meetings, and visitor registration and monitoring,”
In addition, the funding also extends to initiatives promoting sustainable and responsible tourism across the country.
