No plastic bottle and nylon bag to Co To islands from September

Towards sustainable tourism development, Co To District People’s Committee (Quang Ninh) will pilot regulations that tourists do not bring plastic bottles and bags and other materials that can cause environmental pollution when traveling to Co To from September 1, 2022.

Tuoi Tre Online reported that Nguyen Viet Dung, Secretary and Chairman of Co To District People’s Committee, said the pilot will be implemented in a few months. After that, they will summarize to officially apply this regulation. Currently, the basic necessities have been fully prepared here to meet visitor needs.

Dung said: “In our district, everything is now complete, but many tourists still carry water bottles, plastic bags for food, etc., causing pressure on the environment when plastic waste is brought to the district.”

He said that in order to effectively implement the regulation, Co To requires carriers and tour operators to guide tourists right from the bookings, and when they arrive at Van Don wharf to visit Co To island, they will be asked to leave plastic bottles, nylon bags and other objects that can cause environmental pollution.

He also expressed his wish that each resident should raise responsibility, actively participate in and organize anti-plastic waste activities with specific and practical actions, change habits, and say no to single-use plastic products, and nylon bags in daily life.

People are also encouraged to actively participate in environmental protection at the residence with small actions such as sorting waste at source, recycling and reusing waste and condemning acts of polluting the marine environment, or wasteful use of resources and energy, etc.
