From August 4 to August 7, more than 100 flights of Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air had to fly around to avoid the military training area around Taiwan island.
Flight routes between Vietnam and Northeast Asia such as Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan have been adjusted to avoid flying over some military drill areas around the island of Taiwan. In addition to adjusting flight routes, a number of flights have been delayed due to the same adjustment by many airlines; flights have to take longer, causing airlines to increase fuel costs.
Previously, the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam received a notice from the aviation authority of China about establishing 6 temporary hazardous areas related to the Taiwan flight area between 10 am on August 4 and 10 am on 7/8. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has asked airlines to adjust flight routes to avoid 6 dangerous areas.
