According to the tourism recovery plan this year from Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism, the province will continue to prioritize welcoming domestic visitors while the international market is forecast to soon recover in 2021.
The Department of Tourism of Khanh Hoa province aims to welcome 350,000 visitors, 10,000 of which are international visitors, in the fourth quarter of 2020. In addition, the locality will restore 100% of the basic tourism service system such as accommodation, restaurants, tour operators, amusement parks and modern utility services to create leverage for recovery in the year of 2021.
Mr. Tran Viet Trung, Director of the Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism, said that the locality has introduced a series of stimulus programs and issued a step-by-step restoration plan for tourism activities post COVID-19. Specifically, the domestic tourism market is still the top priority in the fourth quarter of 2020 and in 2021 and then come the international visitors, who are mostly foreign workers, experts and diplomats in Vietnam, especially during the winter break between Christmas and New Year celebration. The third group in the priority list is the international tourism market which is forecast to soon recover in 2021 such as Korea and Russia.
“In order to attract domestic tourists and foreign tourist groups that are already in Vietnam, Khanh Hoa tourism is going to boost coordination to promote and attract tourists through the Connecting Enterprises program,” said Mr. Trung.
In particular, the province prioritizes activities to stimulate local tourism with the theme “Khanh Hoa residents travel within Khanh Hoa”, building a number of stimulus tourism product packages such as MICE, Resorts for family and friends as well as sports tourism with golf services to attract visitors from key markets such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, other southwest provinces and the neighboring provinces in Central Highlands.
Khanh Hoa welcomed more than 7 million visitors, of which international visitors reached 3.5 million, in 2019. Tourism revenue is estimated at 27,100 billion VND. However, the pandemic of COVID-19 has caused a significant decrease in the number of local visitors. For the past eight months, Khanh Hoa generally witnessed nearly 986,000 visitors, which accounts for only 19.8% over the same period in 2019. International visitors only reached about 426,000 and total tourism revenue in the first 8 months of 2020 was estimated at 6,028 billion VND, just as 24.4% as that in the same period in 2019.
Due to COVID-10, a series of restaurants, hotels and resorts have to be closed or put out for sale because they cannot make it through this crisis. With those which are still operating, they have no choice but to cut down working hours of their staff to minimize operating costs. This causes more than 15,000 employees in the industry to temporarily unemployed or completely change to another job.
