In order to reduce the load on the old night market as well as promote tourism, the authorities in the Central Highlands town of Da Lat has just proposed to build a new night market and pedestrian street with a scale of nearly 120,000 m2.
According to the project submitted by the Da Lat’s authorities to the People’s Committee of Lam Dong province, the city will build a residential area combining a night market and Lu Gia pedestrian street, located next to Cam Ly stream flowing into Xuan Huong lake, belonging to two wards 8 and 9 with total investment cost is 1.6 trillion VND (68.6 million USD). Of which, more than 1,246 billion VND for resettlement, 410 billion VND for project implementation.
In addition, the project will also include public parks, along with works that contribute to the embellishment of urban architecture and tourism.
Currently, Da Lat city has a night market and a pedestrian street that operates on weekends and holidays and Tet in Hoa Binh area and Da Lat market. However, due to the small space in the center, and the increasing number of tourists, the night market is always overcrowded.
Located on a plateau about 1,500m above sea level, Da Lat is famous for its year-round cool climate, with pine forests, misty landscapes and typical colonial architecture. The city welcomed seven million tourists in 2019, a year before the Covid-19 epidemic spread, affecting the tourism industry.
