The Notre-Dame de Paris is expected to reopen in 2024, before that, the cathedral was closed for repair following a catastrophic fire in 2019.
According to French Culture Minister Rima Abdul Malak, the clean-up phase of the restoration project has ended, and work on rebuilding the damaged parts of the church will begin by the end of this summer: “We are confident that 2024 will be the year when most of the restoration work on the church is completed so it can reopen to worshipers and the public.”
After the completion of the safety phase in 2021 and the cleaning of the interior of the church, notable reconstruction includes the reconstruction of the wooden roof structure, the domes, and the spire. According to some sources, the restoration of the famous spire outside the church alone cost 6.5 million USD out of the total 170 million USD of the whole project.
Notre-Dame de Paris was built in the 12th century and is one of the famous cultural symbols of France. The cathedral was badly damaged after a fire in April 2019, since then, Notre-Dame de Paris has been under repair and reconstruction ever since.
